It depends on the type of visa you are applying for. They vary greatly in price, processing time and qualifications. Generally speaking, if you’re eligible for a Golden Visa, it is usually processed the fastest, however, it’s also the most expensive.

Due to Covid, processing times have been dramatically increased. It can take up to 12 months for some visa types such as the Family Reunion visa. The government has started taking new applications again, however, there is a significant backlog.

Luckily, Portugal has a visa for most types of applicants. The only two things that can usually lead to refusals are serious criminal records under Portuguese law or not enough subsistence money in your bank account at the time of application.
