Can I move to Portugal without a job?

For most visa applications, you can move to Portugal without a job, however, you will need to prove you have enough money in your bank account to support yourself.

Depending on the visa type, you’ll need to prove you have at-least €8,460 in your bank account and be willing to provide up to 6 months of bank statements.

If you can hold this amount or more in a Portuguese bank account, that is ideal. This is considered approximately 12 months’ income in Portugal.

It is worth noting that Portuguese salaries can be much lower than the US, UK, and other parts of Europe. However, the cost of living is also generally much lower.

If it’s possible for you to work remotely, Portugal is often listed as the top place to live as a remote worker.
