Solved my visa woes

"After failing to get my visa twice, I finally decided to reach out to Movingto for help. Ariane explained the process perfectly and why I was previously unsuccessful. They went on to take care of everything end-to-end with a successful result for my wife and I. We could finally retire to Spain."

Bradley White, from London, UK

Seamless visa and NIF

"I initially just purchased a NIF from Movingto. It was fast and the communication was great. So, I decided to purchase my visa with them. Ariane kept me well informed during the entire process and put any doubts I had at ease. I really enjoyed working with Movingto and highly recommend it. "

Bank account done

In order to move to Portugal, I had to open a bank account remotely. I had absolutely no idea where to get started, but Movingto made it dead-simple. They explained what I needed to provide, and they took care of the rest. I was set up with an account from the other side of the world within days.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Portuguese NISS?
Expand

The Número de Segurança Social (NISS), also known as the Portuguese social security number, is a unique identification number assigned to individuals working in Portugal. It is essential for both employees and self-employed freelancers, as it is used for a wide range of social security and taxation purposes.

The NISS serves as a key identifier for individuals interacting with the Portuguese social security system. It is used for registering for social security benefits, such as healthcare, unemployment benefits, and pensions; paying social security contributions and taxes; accessing social security services and online platforms; and completing tax returns and other official documents.

Obtaining a NISS is mandatory for individuals working in Portugal. It can be applied for at a local Social Security office or through the Segurança Social Direta online portal. The NISS is a crucial document that should be kept secure and confidential. Sharing the NISS with unauthorized individuals may lead to identity theft or fraud.

Who needs a Portuguese NIS?
Expand

Individuals who are actively working in Portugal, including employees, self-employed freelancers, and students, require a Número de Segurança Social (NISS) number. The NISS is essential for accessing social security benefits, paying taxes, and completing various administrative tasks.

However, individuals who are retired or do not intend to work in Portugal may not need a NISS number. This includes individuals who are only visiting Portugal for tourism or other short-term purposes.

Therefore, the need for a NISS in Portugal is primarily determined by one's employment status. Individuals who are actively working in the country should obtain a NISS to ensure they can fully participate in the social security system and meet their legal obligations.

What documents do I need to apply for a NISS?
Expand

To apply for a Número de Segurança Social (NISS), you will need to submit the following documents along with the social security application form:

Identification document:

- A valid passport or original citizen card

- NIF (Número de Identificação Fiscal): Your Portuguese tax identification number

- Valid work and residence permit: For non-Portuguese citizens, a valid work and residence permit (such as a Schengen Visa) is required

I used this service to get a NIF number…

I used this service to get a NIF number for my father. They managed to get it in less than 7 days, gave me a log in to manage the number as well.I haven't got around to using it for their other services yet, but it worked well for me.
